Jason Goodrich - Turning Small
Christmas is right around the corner. These mini lanterns are great gifts or decor. They are also a great skill builder. Stock prep is very important, but the turning is wide open to the imagination.
This demo is a two for one special. Turning small is a fun experience and betel nut is a unique material.
Open Shop is directed toward the new turner but all are welcome. Bring a project you want help finishing. Bring questions about methods, tools, designs or any other woodturning question. There are seven lathes available for use. Bring your own tools and wood or buy wood at the shop.
We will have three sharpening stations to help you perfect your sharpening technique. There is no more important topic for the new turner (or the old ones for that matter) than sharpening.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER FOR OPEN SHOP
Registration guarantees you use of a lathe, and others can use one when one becomes available.
There will always be three or more advanced turners there to help, sharpen tools, and answer any questions.
Open Shop is free, but the rental Portable Rest Room and our coffee and doughnuts cost money. A $20 donation would help defray expenses.
Requirements
“Woodchucking”:
A hybrid approach to woodturning using traditional and contemporary methods of fixing a workpiece to the lathe.
The skill-level for this class is intermediate level. You need to have completed the "Basics of Bowl Turning" and the "Basics of Spindle Turning" before registering
for this class. Tom will happily review the course content with you to be sure you and your skills are a good fit for the class. Tom also plans to be at Open Shop on November 8th to answer questions.
