We are excited to introduce our first Intermediate Bowl Turning class.  If you have turned a bowl from a blank to a finished product, then you have the basic requirements to register for the class.  We will assume you know the basics of mounting, rounding, and hollowing, but need to work on the finer details of bowl turning.  The class agenda is designed to work with a green blank in the morning and a dry, once turned blank, in the afternoon.  All wood will be provided.  A required tool list will be sent out shortly and loaner tools will be available.

You will leave the day with two bowls which may be complete or to a state you can finish them at home.

Agenda

  • Design concepts – how to make a nice bowl form
  • Start with a rounded, green blank between centers, make a tenon, hollow it out
  • Helpers will be available to provide one-on-one supervision
  • In the afternoon, we will provide a roughed out, dry bowl for you to finish or you can provide your own.
  • Get it back to round, focus on wall thickness and the transition from the side to the bottom, consider different rim design
