NWWT (Northwest Woodturners), founded in 1995, is a non-profit volunteer organization comprised of approximately one hundred members who share a common passion for wood turning. Membership is a mix of beginners, intermediate and advanced woodturners. Woodturning is a specialized type of woodworking that uses a wood lathe to make bowls, platters, pens, bottle stoppers, spindles, boxes and other mostly round items out of wood and similar materials.

Community Service
NWWT is dedicated to serving the community by passing on the art of woodturning to anyone, young and old, in the community who has an interest. Our members volunteer their time, knowledge and skills to help various community projects as approved by the board. NWWT members participate in community toy drives, especially during the holidays to make toys for needy children. Our members also donate items that they make to be used by other non-profit agencies in auctions to raise money for community projects.  NWWT works with local high schools by donating their time to educate students in the art of woodturning.  NWWT members also help the family of deceased woodworkers to sell or distribute their tools and materials.

Meetings
NWWT meets once a month presenting woodworking demonstrations and/or speakers. These meetings, on the first Thursday of every month, are generally held at The Multnomah Arts Center in Multnomah VIllage. Non-members and anyone in the community are welcome to attend at no charge.  Occasional enjoyable social events are planned, where members can meet in a relaxed atmosphere and exchange ideas.

Seminars/Classes
Numerous seminars and classes are presented throughout the year for woodworkers with all levels of experience. Topics range from basic techniques for beginners to advanced topics for more advanced turners. Once or twice a year, a nationally recognized demonstrator is brought in to hold classes. Seminars are open to members and non-members.

Northwest Woodturners proudly hosts demonstrations by national and international professional turners such as Richard Raffan, Jean Francois Escoulen, Christian Burchard, Soren Berger, Bonnie Klein, and Binh Pho, in addition to our resident talent. To complement the monthly demonstrations, the chapter also conducts a member challenge, show-and-tell, and wood raffle. Members may also borrow from the chapter's outstanding library of turning related books, magazines and videos.

Club Store
Northwest Woodturners maintains a store of commonly needed supplies for members at fantastic prices.  We regularly maintain stocks of supplies such as sandpaper, instant glue, endgrain sealer, waxes and finishes, and recordings of past meeting demonstrations.

Communications
NWWT publishes a monthly newsletter with articles of woodturning interest, reports of events, notes, comments and classified ads. The NWWT web page (www.northwestwoodturners.com ) communicates current information about activities.

Sponsors
NWWT is generously supported by several sponsors in the wood industry, many of whom offer discounts on purchases of select items.

Shows
NWWT participates in a number of shows during the year to provide a venue for members to sell their products as well as participate in the art community. Members have the opportunity to display and/or sell their work
